Why does every recording tell me to move my saddle a different way?

This almost always means the recordings were different from each other, not that your position was. The most common cause is your foot leaving the frame. Saddle height comes from your knee angle and your foot angle together at the bottom of the stroke, so if your foot is in the frame on one recording and cut off on the next, the two aren't measuring the same thing. When the app can't see a body point, it estimates where it is, so a recording with your foot cut off can still show a confident-looking number.

What to do:

  1. Stop adjusting the bike. Moving the saddle again just adds one more thing that changed.
  2. Record twice in a row without changing anything. If the two agree within 2 to 4 mm, your setup is good and you can trust the numbers from here. If they don't, the recording is what needs fixing, not the bike.
  3. Check the recording itself: in focus, well lit, camera level, and your whole body and bike in the frame from start to finish.
How much variation is normal?

A difference of 2 to 4 mm between good recordings is normal. It comes from small, real differences in how you pedal and how you sit on the saddle, and from the fact that there's no single perfect saddle height for anyone. Swings of 10 mm or more with nothing changed point to the recording.

Why did my height recommendation change after I changed my fore/aft?

That's expected. Height and fore/aft affect each other, so record again after every change.

Why does fore/aft show a checkmark when my saddle looks too far forward?

The fore/aft result already assumes you've made the height change first. Changing the height moves your hip too, so a big height change next to a fore/aft checkmark is correct.

Why is my knee angle target different from what I've read elsewhere?

BFF Elite's target takes your foot angle into account: riders who pedal heel-down get a higher knee angle target than riders who pedal toe-down.

Why did trying a change on screen say one thing, and the real change give me another?

Trying a change on screen gives a quick estimate, not a precise prediction. After any real change, record again and go by the new recording.

Why do my numbers all look slightly off?

Check the crank length in the session's Bike Info. The default is 172.5 mm, and if your cranks are a different length the measurements are scaled slightly wrong.
