How to record well
A few practical notes
The three most common recording mistakes
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Lighting | Consistent lighting across the whole bike and rider. Light in front or to the side, never behind you. |
| Foot and hip visibility | Make sure you're wearing something that contrasts with the trainer. Avoid loose clothing, a normal bike kit is ideal. Keep the foot fully in frame and out of shadow. |
| Pedaling continuity | Give yourself enough time or pedal strokes to get to your normal pedaling rhythm. Pedal steadily through the whole 4 seconds, including through the final beep. |
- Cadence: Pedal at your normal cruising cadence (about 80 to 90 rpm). The point is to capture how you actually ride.
- Crank length: BFF EZ assumes 172.5 mm and doesn't let you change it. Non-standard cranks mean the direction is right but the millimeter value is slightly off. Elite and Pro let you edit to your exact crank length if you need it.
- Result variability: Three back-to-back recordings may give slightly different numbers. Up to a few millimeters of variation is normal (about 5 mm). When results sit within that range, you are usually inside your fit window and can go by feel.
