Saddle height

about 10 minutes Lesson 3 of 6 Section 6 of 7

How to adjust your saddle height

  1. Loosen the seatpost binder clamp at the top of the seat tube (the bolt holding the post, not the one holding the saddle to the post).
  2. Slide the post up or down to the new height.
  3. Retighten to the torque your bike's manual specifies (often around 5 Nm for road bikes). Many parts have the number printed right next to the bolt, so check there first.

Note: Different bikes have different locations of where the seatpost binder clamp is located. The video shows two different placements. If you can't find the right place on your bike, you should be able to find it in the manual or on the manufacturer's website.

Quick check: Before you move anything, mark your starting position (take a picture, manually measure your saddle height (bottom bracket to top of saddle) or the length of visible seatpost, or write down the mm mark if your seatpost has lines). If the change doesn't feel right, you can roll straight back. And re-record after every change: height and fore/aft are linked.
