Upper body position

about 9 minutes Lesson 5 of 6 Section 4 of 8

How BFF EZ reads it from your video

Your 4-second side view recording captures your torso angle and shoulder angle while you ride.

A grey side view silhouette of a cyclist with a teal line from hip to shoulder and a cyan wedge marking the torso angle against a horizontal reference line.
Torso angle: how far your back leans from horizontal, measured from hip to shoulder.
The same grey cyclist silhouette with teal lines from elbow to shoulder to hip and a cyan wedge marking the shoulder angle.
Shoulder angle: how open your arm is to your torso, measured from elbow to shoulder to hip.

The app compares the line of your back relative to horizontal at the point of maximum knee extension, then names where you're sitting: Upright, Relaxed, or Aggressive.

A chart showing the upper body position spectrum, with three zones running from Upright through Relaxed to Aggressive based on torso angle, and a marker showing where the rider currently sits.

Unlike saddle height and fore/aft, there's no checkmark or millimeter recommendation here because there's no single correct answer. The app tells you where you're sitting; whether that's the right zone for you is a question you answer from your goals, your flexibility, and how the position feels.

Changing zones is a handlebar and stem job, covered next.
